Environmental Media Associaton's 2009 GREEN SEAL

Many of you know that our short comedy “Three-Fifty” was originally conceived as a solar powered project.   The idealism at the time was to create a 100% solar film production – ha – an impossible feat in 2006 – especially for a 35mm night shoot.   Mission Adjustment:  as “sustainable” as possible.   We conducted over 8 hours of rehearsal in a solar powered building and on our set used a solar powered marine battery (in a Woody Wagon no less) to recharge batteries, cell phones and the night shoot’s very important coffee urn.  Add to this that “Three-Fifty” was originally developed and enjoyed a 6 week run live on stage in a 100% solar powered performing arts complex, and we most likely have the greenest short in town.    The technical part of our solar system, the solar panel, transformer and the Woody Wagon were donated to us by ABC Solar.  Thanks, ABC!

We applied for our Environmental Media Associaton’s GREEN SEAL and just received our official notice.  No matter the size or budget of your production or special event “going green” most likely won’t cost you any money, just a little extra thought and planning on the front end.  It costs you nothing to recycle.   Deep inside everyone really wants it.  So do it!  You’ll be thrilled with the results.
So, a big green “THANK YOU” to our producers, writer/director and cast & crew who participated in our recycling on the set and a big “THANK YOU” to our crew members who braved the big solar powered battery in the Woody Wagon to re-charge their batteries, cell phones, etc.  We appreciate your courage to step up and be first!  We also need to thank our great supporter of the solar perspective, a man who created one of the first 100% solar powered films, filmmaker Jack Bibbo.

“Three-Fifty” is a hit on the festival circuit, European cable and now, in the classroom. Hilarious and meaningful to our times, the mythology of “Three-Fifty” has universal appeal.  Though presented as comedy, “Three-Fifty”’s theme of privacy rights, dishonesty, consequences and redemption stimulate deep discussions.   “Three-Fifty”  and it’s Teacher’s Guide have been chosen by varied instructors.  On the security and privacy rights side “Three-Fifty” was chosen by an instructor for a Post-Naval Academy  course in surveillance.  On the artistic side, a composer chose it to enhance his residency at Maharishi University.

The “Three-Fifty” Teacher’s Guide includes:

A) 1 DVD (PAL or NTSC)  Available only in English at the time of this post.
B) The formal “Teacher’s Guide” which is ten discussion questions and exercises for use in the classroom.  Written by Jungian and Terra psychologist Craig Chalquist, MS, PhD.
C) License to show entire film in classroom and option for public screening
D) PDF or hard copy of original stage play
E) PDF or hard copy of final screenplay/shooting script in English, Spanish or French

Founded by Derek Zemrak, the  California Independent Film Festival began in 1999 and is now the fastest growing film festival in California, screening over 1,000 independent films from the US and around the world.    On April 18th, the festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Ms. Dianne Ladd (Laura Dern’s Mother, y’all). Ms.  Ladd is recipient of numerous awards in televison and film including a three-time Oscar nominee.

We have to say Sonoma International Film Festival is an outstanding festival.  We had a great time and the films are excellent.  Sonoma is a beautiful, completely live-able,  little town and the people are extremely gracious.
Me:  The people are so happy!
Co-producer:  They’re within walking distance of the best wineries in the country.  Of course they’re happy!

Smart, fun audiences who are so curious about the filmmakers. Great parties, (more wineries) and their awards?  ha, ha…get this – magnums of wine are their statues with the award hand written on the bottle in silver ink.  Score! Wish we had scored an “award” like that, yet we are content with our five awards.

We stayed outside of town in a guest house with a view that will knock your socks off. Hills, vineyards, trees, more hills, green grass, flowers everywhere,  a few cows, a few sheep – truly – extraordinarily beautiful you can barely believe it’s real.  We’ll post photos as soon as we can — and we’ll post our wine notes, too.  Food, wine and film — so perfect.  Be sure to put it on your calendar for 2010.   You will have a magical week.
